Chopta-

Chopta is a valley full of evergreen trees and is surrounded by forests and mountains. The place also has vast stretches of green land which are called as Bugyals. It is situated in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand and is considered as one of the best hill stations not only of Uttarakhand but also of India. The Chopta valley is the part of Kedarnath wildlife sanctuary and is close to the Kanchula Kharak Deer Sanctuary, which is the home for the famous Musk deer. Due to the lush green meadows and the pine and oak trees in the valley, the place is also called as the “Mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand“. Chopta is situated at an elevation of 2600 metres above sea level and is therefore very cool and pleasant even in the summer months. It is popularly known as the base camp for the Chopta Tungnath Chandrashila Trek.

Tungnath Temple-

Tungnath temple, which means Lord of the peaks is the world’s highest Shiva temple situated at a height of about 3500 metres above sea level. The Tungnath temple is one of the five Panch Kedars. It is believed that the temple was built by the Pandavas to worship Shiva to ask for forgiveness for killing their cousins and Guru in the battle of Mahabharata. The temple has a great spiritual significance and people visit here to seek blessings and for fulfilment of their wishes. Trek to Tungnath starts from Chopta valley and can easily be completed in 3-4 hours.

Chandrashila Peak-

Located at a further 1 Km distance above Tungnath is the Chandrashila peak. Chandrashila means Moon rock. It is believed that the Moon God meditated there. Situated at a height of 3700 metres above sea level, the peak offers great views of the entire Himalayan range in all directions. Nanda Devi and Chaukhambha peaks are clearly visible from the top on a clear day. The views of the sunrise and sunset from Chandrashila are also amazing and are worth seeing. People also meditate here for experiencing spiritual bliss and spend time here admiring the natural beauty from the peak.

Deoria Taal-

Distance of 22 Kms from Chopta is Deoria Lake or Deoria Tal. It is believed that the God came here for bathing. The lake is surrounded by forests and snow covered peaks. One gets to view the Chaukhamba peak’s reflection in the crystal clear water of the lake. The lake is situated at an altitude of 2430 metres and can be reached by trekking a distance of 3.5 Kms from Sari village. Sari village can be easily reached by shared taxis from Chopta or Ukhimath. The weather of Deoriatal is similar to that of Chopta and the lake completely freezes during the winter months.

Auli-

Auli is India’s most popular skiing destination in India as it hosts a number of skiing competitions and offers skiing lessons to beginners. It has been aggressively promoted as a skiing resort by the Tourism Department of Uttarakhand, because of which it has gained quite a lot of popularity among tourists.. It is surrounded by lush green forests of Oaks and Deodars and Apple orchards. Auli offers great views of the Himalayan mountains including that of Nanda Devi, Mana Parvat and Kamat Kamet. Auli is the perfect Himalayan hill station as it offers snowy slopes, lush green meadows, cable cars, beautiful resorts and adventure activities for visitors. Located at 2800 meters above sea levels, it is the perfect place to enjoy snow based activities.

Package Itinerary:

Day 01: Pick From Rishikesh/Haridwar and Drive to Chopta Valley

Meet at a given pickup point (most probably Bus Stand, or near railway Station) early morning. The journey would approximately take more than 07 to 08 hours. Do the breakfast and lunch in between (not included in package). Arrive at Chopta Campsite. You may perhaps super tired after completing the 07 to 08 hours of journey. When you reach Chopta, Check in to your respective rooms in the Tents and relax with a cup of hot tea. Chopta is situated in the Kedarnath Wild Life Sanctuary and so is abundant in flora and fauna. This place has amazing views of the Himalayas and the Valley. Explore the area nearby and capture the beautiful sunset in your cameras.

The evenings get really chilly in Chopta. Enjoy a bowl of soup and snacks while we arrange bonfire and dinner gets ready. After dinner retire in your tents.

Day 02: Trek to the highest Shiva temple and Chandrashila peak

After breakfast trek to Tungnath with packed lunch. Tungnath is situated at the height of 3680 mts from the sea level. The trek is three kms upward. Enroute you will find lush green meadows and you can see the range of snowcapped Himalayas. Chandrashila offers the view of Nanda Devi , the highest peak in India. Return in the evening for a god night’s rest.

Day 03: Chopta To Auli

On the 3rd day after breakfast, we leave for Auli, the skiing destination. It is at a distance of 100 km and can easily be reached in 2-3 hours. On route we can also visit the popular spiritual places like the Narsingh Temple and Shankracharaya Math in Joshimath. Auli has the option of a 3.9 km cable car ride to reach a Ski resort . The ride offers great views of the valley and hills from the top and is a must at Auli.

We stay overnight stay at Auli.

Day 04: Auli sightseeing and Trek Gorson Bugyal

Apart from taking the cable car and exploring the beautiful valley in Auli, there are other beautiful places which can be visited when in Auli. One can plan to visit the Gurso Bugyal, which is a beautiful location offering great views of the Trishul Peak, Dron Parvat and Nanda Devi . One can also visit Chattrakund which is nearby, and is a beautiful and clean lake with crystal clear blue waters. It is also an ideal location for those who love nature and silence. Another beautiful location which can be visited is the Auli Artificial Lake which is one of the highest man-made lakes in the World. It was developed by Government to produce artificial snow. It is surrounded by mighty Himalayan peaks and is very beautiful.

Day 05: Auli to Rishikesh/Haridwar Drop

This is the final day of the trip. Enjoy the morning in Auli with breakfast. Drive to Rishikesh/Haridwar and reach there by late evening. Tour Ends.

Note: The Deoriatal trek will entirely depend upon our arrival timings to Chopta. It can either take place on the first day itself or can be covered on the third day as well.

Is there any ATM in Chopta?

No, Last ATM is in Ukhimath (not sure about working condition), So it is better to carry cash with you. You’ll find last working ATM in Srinagar.

Is there any option of Online Payment?

Mobile / internet connectivity is too weak in chopta so it is better to carry cash with you for any kind of payment.

Will get electricity in Chopta?

Yes, but only via solar generator. Chopta comes under Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary Area, so there is no electricity in entire Chopta region. Will provide you electricity only in night times.

If there is no electricity how will charge our electronic devices?

We have electricity extensions only in our dinning and kitchen so you can charge your electronic devices there.

What about water facility in camps?

Running cold water in washroom is available only in summer. In winters will provide you hot & cold water in bucket.

Hot water is chargeable?

Things to know during The Auli Chopta Tour

Climatic conditions in the high altitudes vary from the plains; take adequate time to get acclimatized to high altitudes.

Do not consume alcohol or any other intoxicants during the trek.
Avoid trekking during the nights.

The trek takes place through eco-friendly zone; do not encourage littering the local sites or campsites.
